jobless claims are actually meaningless now because the white collar jobs have been gone for 2 years and the people displaced in those high paying positions, for the most part, cannot find the same level of work as before and have taken low paying service jobs. This is my observation with engineering, IT, financial services, legal etc. All the laid off people are now working at starbucks... well sure they are working so thats better than nothing but not much better. The only report I pay attention to is the # of jobs created which comes out monthly. We need to create 300K-400K jobs per month to really be in any sort of recovery and out of that total some percentage must be white collar. It sounds funny to even state the reality of 300K jobs/month, it is so unreachable. Next year - more of the same on the jobs front or worse.
