How unfortunate for Joan that Solon was not there to expose her psyche and show her that God does not exist. He could have found her solace in a gay marriage and brought her somedrugs to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin into her brain. If Joan begged for confession and communion Solon could instead direct her to his favourite crutch the infidels website. And of course if this messenger of God insisted on being stupid and insulting with her piety and faith he could remedy that with a good cuff.

What fascinating information re: Twain writing about Joan of Arc. I didn't know. Learning this and then reading some of Twain's writings about Joan made my day. Extraordinary person, she was.

Perhaps you already know, if not, here's one for you. When Ulysses Grant was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he lamented the fact that he would leave his wife and children poverty-stricken. Whereupon, Mark Twain encouraged Grant to write his story - which apparently is a remarkable work. Before Grant died, Twain presented him with a check for $200,000 in royalties...that book eventually brought Grant's family over $425,000. :)
