I agree, it smells. But Khaddaffi has to be sweating the rock and the hard place. The Americans or the jackals at his own doorstep, which evil to choose? It has to be a hard time to be a dictator. I'd rather see the WMD taken away from him, and give him his candy to seal the deal. A devil's bargain.

>>The Bastard has no business getting a visit from Bush.<<

That was my immediate thought when I read it. Stupid and counter productive. I hope some common sense will displace the short term euphoria over Libya and overturn this theatrical response. I understand the administration's desire to demonstrate the Carrot or Stick approach. But it won't be read that way in the Arab world. They will lionize the Butcher of Tripoli for compelling an American President to pay personal homage. It will sooth the humiliation of seeing Saddam disgracefully yanked from a dirt hole in complete humiliation. Bad move Mr. Bush, don't do it.

The Bastard has no business getting a visit from Bush. That's outrageous.
How so, Bill ? Pakistan had US sanctions until 9/11. Then the tide changed, and they are now "one of our best allies", with visits to the WhiteHouse etc. No more sanctions, lots of aid money etc. Whats the difference ?
