I'm not really too happy with any of the Demo candidates, but I think any of them would be better than Bush. I'm not sure any of them can stand up to the awesome Rove lie factory. I think the neocon cabal will do ANYTHING to stay in power, so I'm not sure I even want a real Demo contender. It might be better if Bush just continued to impoverish us for another term - enough rope to hang himself. Hell, he might even have to RAISE taxes! At least he'll have to face the consequences of his dumbass policies.

but if Dean is going to win the election he's going to need to let voters know about his centrist, and even conservative economic platform.

In 1994 Dean made some statements that he was aligned with Newt Gingrich's plan to save social security. Newt wanted to raise the retirement age to 70 and do some other things to shore it up. Now, in the primaries Gephardt and friends are calling Dean on his support of Newt's plan and Dean is trying to back out of it.

So, Dean has some ammunition that he can use to present himself as a fiscal conservative non-spending type, if he wants to.

I think Dean has a bit of foot-in-mouth disease and that might be his undoing, who knows. For example when Dean labelled himself as coming from the left wing of the democratic party, early on in the primaries- that was a mistake if that label sticks. He is clearly *not* from the left wing of the democratic party if you really look at his record. He must have meant as it pertained to war.

Some people talk about taxes in Vermont being high, but Vermont gives healthcare to its citizens so if the subject comes up I think Dean should discuss it in the context of opportunity costs. For example is vermont friendly to business, because they don't pay for healthcare, or is healthcare LESS for business because it is a single payer system (probably).

I was never a fan of Hillary's big spending healthcare program but in California we have a huge problem with big companies not paying healthcare and the state suffers dearly for it. Walmart workers still go to the emergency room after all. This has become a crisis when in Hillary's time it wasn't as bad. And of course the drug mess is a whole other spin on it.
