You will seldom get the guys on an "A" team to agree on which personal firearms they should carry.

Preferences are determined by many many factors.
For example:
You will seldom if ever find a soldier with small to medium hands who prefers the 45.
Some thoracic hits strike the heart or other vitals causing immediate or near death. Others pass through and are survivable. That is neither the weapon nor the bullet's fault.
SFers receive familiarization training on every firearm in the world but most base their opinions on which weapon performed well for them in a shoot-out.
Teams have become excellent at tailoring weapons and combat loads for specific missions. The SF M4 has four sights, all excellent for a specific purpose. Yet nobody hardly ever carries more than one or two.
The M-14 argument is over imo. You will never find a combat experienced SFer willing to trade his M-4 with the new sights for an M-14.
