Welcome aboard wb.

I thought of doing the firefighter deal after my return to civilian life. 3 hours of smoke filled hell in the shipyard in 82 just about cured me of those thoughts. But then after returning to our small town I thought it my civic duty to volunteer. Final straw was telling our fire chief I would be willing to volunteer since I lived right across the road from the fire station at the time. He told me they weren't taking anyone on without experience or training. I likely had far more hours of both then the majority of the volunteer's. Then the moron assistant told me that was really too bad because it's really fun and cool to fight fires.

I told them I was thrilled that they did not have any room as I had changed my mind. When asked why I responded that I wanted no part of any asshole that thought running into burning buildings was either cool or fun.

They didn't quite know how to respond to that.

As an aside, cool boy was arrested for starting fires and then being the hero responder. Chief retired. Our lead ambulance driver was arrested for drunk driving at an accident with the State Patrol and made Paul Harvey.

Thank goodness I wasn't needed. <NFG>
