I drive on The Beltway. It is four and five lanes, sometimes more, jammed/crammed, 55 mile speed limit, traffic moving pretty evenly between seventy and eighty, depending on your lane, until it stops abruptly, that is. That's the biggest danger, reacting to the stopping in time. There are no maniacs going 100. There's just no place to go 100. Too crowded. There are some who weave in and out to get an extra few MPH or who tailgate you when you're already going eighty. But I don't see them all that often. Greater danger from guns than drivers on that road, I think. If wstera_02 is driving where I think he is I would stay home. Yes, I used to be a vigilante once upon a time before I mellowed. Particularly with tailgaters and shoulder drivers who cut in. Not any more. First of all, it's not my place to enforce my view of the traffic laws. And secondly, making a point to another driver is just not worth the risk to myself or someone else. They won't learn anything from my little lesson anyway, just get more angry. I drive defensively now. I drive at whatever speed traffic is moving, I keep my eyes open, and I give the nuts, including the vigilantes, a wide berth.
