elpie-

two of the lost bags arrived
this afternoon - luckily, one
of those contained the tortillas,
the shells, the agates, the wool
carpet, the 'frida' pareo and the
lime squeezers i bought at the
el pescador.

the flight from l.a. to vancouver
was unbearably hot and stuffy, and we
were surrounded by screaming babies,
misbehaving brats and rude women.

it was delayed of course, but that was
a good thing because the flight from
hermisillo was also delayed. and that
was delayed no doubt because of the
stringent security measures that were
put in place in the u.s.a. so that this
flight could land in l.a.

we went through the usual frisking in
loreto during check in. the bags were
all hand searched because its such a
small airport that they don't have x-ray
facilities for other than hand luggage.

so, they don their rubber gloves and
begin to poke and prod through your
dirty laundry. no one hauled out a
thong though to question what it was <g>.

anyway, after we disembarked in hermisillo,
we had to claim our luggage again and it
was hand searched again. it's like they
didn't trust the dudes in loreto. then
the bags when out the door, past the dogs
and back on to the same plane, only this
time they were tagged to go straight thru
to vancouver. the passengers were then
directed to go to gate 6. before going
into that area, our purses and carry on
items went through an x-ray machine as
did we - you know, the old spread your
arms and legs while they run the wand
over you routine. so. here we are in
a big room waiting for our flight to
board. when it's finally called, we
notice that there's a line up at the
door. three guesses why. we have to
go through security of course!!!!!

only this time, it's take your shoes
off, take your belt off, drink the
clear stuff that you claim is water.
then the did the wand thing again.
this is the third time for that.
they went through my purse again,
our carry on bag. these guys didn't
trust what their colleagues did 40 feet
back. all this just to get on the
same frigging aircraft that brought us
there in the first place.

then, of course, we had to go through
security again in l.a. before boarding
the air canada flight home.

on top of that, when we got to vancouver
we were told that we were supposed to
claim our luggage in l.a. so that u.s.
customs could rummage through it agin
even though it was not staying in the u.s.

so, next time i go to mexico, it
will be a direct flight. from canada
straight to mexico.

period.

finito.

or, i'm not going.

i never ever, under any circumstances
want to fly to the u.s. again.

i would prefer to not even fly OVER the
u.s.

there, aren't you sorry you asked? <g>
