To: elpolvo who wrote (31356 ) 1/5/2004 8:19:38 PM From: abuelita Read Replies (3) | Respond to of 104159 elpie- two of the lost bags arrived this afternoon - luckily, one of those contained the tortillas, the shells, the agates, the wool carpet, the 'frida' pareo and the lime squeezers i bought at the el pescador. the flight from l.a. to vancouver was unbearably hot and stuffy, and we were surrounded by screaming babies, misbehaving brats and rude women. it was delayed of course, but that was a good thing because the flight from hermisillo was also delayed. and that was delayed no doubt because of the stringent security measures that were put in place in the u.s.a. so that this flight could land in l.a. we went through the usual frisking in loreto during check in. the bags were all hand searched because its such a small airport that they don't have x-ray facilities for other than hand luggage. so, they don their rubber gloves and begin to poke and prod through your dirty laundry. no one hauled out a thong though to question what it was <g>. anyway, after we disembarked in hermisillo, we had to claim our luggage again and it was hand searched again. it's like they didn't trust the dudes in loreto. then the bags when out the door, past the dogs and back on to the same plane, only this time they were tagged to go straight thru to vancouver. the passengers were then directed to go to gate 6. before going into that area, our purses and carry on items went through an x-ray machine as did we - you know, the old spread your arms and legs while they run the wand over you routine. so. here we are in a big room waiting for our flight to board. when it's finally called, we notice that there's a line up at the door. three guesses why. we have to go through security of course!!!!! only this time, it's take your shoes off, take your belt off, drink the clear stuff that you claim is water. then the did the wand thing again. this is the third time for that. they went through my purse again, our carry on bag. these guys didn't trust what their colleagues did 40 feet back. all this just to get on the same frigging aircraft that brought us there in the first place. then, of course, we had to go through security again in l.a. before boarding the air canada flight home. on top of that, when we got to vancouver we were told that we were supposed to claim our luggage in l.a. so that u.s. customs could rummage through it agin even though it was not staying in the u.s. so, next time i go to mexico, it will be a direct flight. from canada straight to mexico. period. finito. or, i'm not going. i never ever, under any circumstances want to fly to the u.s. again. i would prefer to not even fly OVER the u.s. there, aren't you sorry you asked? <g> la pissed off traveller
