Thanks for the links. It's too bad there isn't anything in the public domain of a similar sort that would pin point the actual temperatures at the time the fires were going before the collapses. Rattling around the Internet, I've seen "expert" opinions that range from 350C to 1500C depending on the opinion.

I ran across this site. It has some pretty good articles if you're willing to register. fe.pennnet.com From some of the articles I looked at, it does appear the fires were going for quite some time. It's still hard for me to figure out how that's possible, but all the reports I've seen seem to agree on that point. I've also seen a few eye witness accounts reporting being able to smell kerosene clear down to the sub basement levels. There aren't too many things that will stink up an area as bad as kerosene, so that part is probably believable, but I haven't seen anything which would suggest there were heavy concentrations any place other than the impact points.

The worst part about trying to investigate anything related to 9/11 is there are too many places where the information just plain isn't available. New York City's ex mayor should be doing hard time for destroying most of the evidence. Heck, it wasn't even his to sell, let alone it was illegal for him to get rid of it. Who knows, maybe an up and coming federal prosecutor will put him away for 10 years under the Patriot Act for conspiring to destroy evidence in an act of terrorism. There's no statute of limitations, and it's retroactive forever, so they could frog walk him to the pokey in handcuffs anytime someone feels like taking him down. I'd love to see it.
