Have my own "buy American" campaign at a local website. This is how difficult it is to ascertain whether a company is foreign or U.S. owned. From the book "How Americans can Buy American" I listed all foreign-owned grocery stores in area. Another poster challenged my listing of Giant Food. So, I did some research & discovered 2 Giant supermarket chains. One based in MD, the other in PA. I informed the challenger they were right, but was promptly advised by still another poster that he had found a Royal Ahold, Inc. website where both Giant grocery store chains were listed in their holdings. It took 3 of us to track down the answer.
We need the bill that passed House of Reps 2yrs ago by overhwhelming yes vote and has been sitting waiting for vote by senate. It would create 1-800 phone# that identifies stores/companies as foreign or American owned.
Senate refuses to vote on it. Many are up for re-election in 2004. We need to put pressure on them now to pass that bill.
