When a free nation can't maintain its foreign adventures with willing volunteers, the rational solution should be to cut down on the adventures, not to fudge the definition of "willing."

While this statement is a bit too glib, there's an underlying point there worth consideration. Perhaps we should judge support for a war by the volume of volunteers rather than by the polls.
