Re Government work:
Well there are certain concerned people working for the government that try to compute what is best for citizens.
But right now the job is to get elected, or re-elected, and to do that candidates promise anything and everything.
Secure jobs and retirement, so one has enough income to afford those good tasting foods and can look forward to the day he does not have to work and burn off those calories.
Safer cars with seat belts and air bags so intoxicated drivers can buckle up and be protected in case of an accident.
Affordable medical care and insurance so that motor accidents or stupidity on the job do not cost so much.
More free drugs or co-payments so that the accidents or the results of excessive eating do not cause so much pain and suffering.
Low interest rates so people can afford expensive homes with central air conditioning, inside plumbing, and work saving gadgets. On-line shopping with door delivery so there is no need to go out in the cold or move around too much.

What kind of platform would be a winning one.?
1. If elected, I will require everyone to attend a government provided health club three times a week. The estimated cost of 30,000 clubs at $1mm each would be only $30 bil for the first year, a paltry sum compared the money saved from better health.
(why is everyone leaving the hall?)
2. If elected, everyone more that 50 pounds overweight as measured on a calibrated government scale will have to go on a diet or pay higher insurance rates.
(well there are 3 or 4 left in the audience, might as well finish the speech)
3. All cars will be equipped with a breath analyzing device
that prevents the engine from running if the driver is intoxicated.
(Since Ted Kennedy and my wife just left I will may as well leave also)
