sometimes one has to do something rather than wait

Usually blind action is worse than none at all, especially when the blind action known to have major consequences which cannot be undone once undertaken.

We are painting ourselves into corners with extremes here again:

agree with much of your post but sometimes one has to do something rather than wait

Between "doing nothing" and "invading Iraq preemptively on a false premise about fighting terrorism" is a whole universe of counterterrorist steps that have been taken and will continue. Going after a real terrorist like Bin Laden in Afghanistan was the best example.

But saying that we have to support everything Bush has done or DO NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! is a straw man argument, a rhetorical deception.

Politicians use those all the time to rationalize partisan views. They don't tell you anything about an actual situation except which point of view the politician is trying to hump for his own benefit.
