Guest worker program

Have you taken a look at Germany lately? They have a bit of a problem with a rather sizable Turkish minority.

Germany invited them as "guest workers", but then they started having children in Germany, and kind of decided they didn't want to go back. AND their cousins, nieces, etc from back home decided they want to come and join them.

PING! ZING! SPLAT! GOT 'IM! :-)

Lousy shot, though. Took 3 bullets. :-)

What you said is along the lines of what I already said would be reasonable: OPEN THE BLOODY BORDER! Let people and capital go back and forth at will.

I'll one-up you one though: To make this REALLY work, something along the line of the European Union, or better yet, the US federal constitution is needed. More than just an end to tariffs is needed. There are more ways a gov't can manipulate matters in favor of the special economic interests that push on it. Tax rates. Tax subsidies. Infrastructure. All kinds of things. Initially, there are likely to be differences between the countries. As time goes on, they become lessened as federal power grows. Right now we have states with no personal income tax and one (CA) at 9 3/4% top rate. And it works, so some difference is tolerable. But a situation where you can come to my country and open a business with just a license, but I can't go to yours unless I give one of your nationals majority ownership won't.

To **** with that. Common citizenship. I think Americans and Mexicans (and maybe Canadians if they will come) can adjust to the idea that American citizenship means AMERICAN citizenship.

Now about those countries further south ..... :-)

Only one problem: Neither your ideas or mine are going to happen. At least not soon.
