An there are some of us that are just tired of nothing getting done because of the "Dem" or "Rep" thing.

Leave out the Dem/Rep and all the other groups and just do things the right way because it is the way it should be.I wonder how many good plans/ideas go to hell just because of the "party"thing? I doubt I or many others care to count that high.

Now, how do you think two more parties will help things?

Will you promise to ship us a French party? We're short on voodoo dolls. :-)

Yeah, I can think of some really FINE examples of multiparty systems. Italy ANY time it's a democracy. France between the wars when its multiparty system produced such paralysis that it sat there and watched Hitler re-arm and get ready to invade it and did nothing effective. (Maginot Line? "Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man."- -US General George Patton).

And Mr. Chamberlain playing to the press and galleries during the late 1930's.

Then, of course, there was that famous triumph of multiparty parliamentary democracy that brought Herr Hitler to the German chancelloeship- -which he then leveraged into dictatorship.

What you neglect to mention is that paralysis is a common failing of parliamentary systems. You may criticize "black and white" all you wish, but generally American gov'ts don't sit by and watch obvious problems that are going to destroy the nation get worse.

Politics is the science of the absurd.

The only thing that creating more parties achieves is breaking up the competition. Divide and Conquer...

The PRI (the party of the Mexican Monarchy -g) did that very effectively during the 70's

They put together a collection of nuts from the old revolutionary retired generals, the young green-o-wackos, the frustrated communist-bourgeoisie, the recalcitrant Castro allies and the conservative-Catholics and ended up with about 7 parties...

All they achieved was to extend their hold on power for 20 more years or so...

Not bad for a relatively cheap initiative with little risk that would actually work...

Plus it wiped out the possibility of a serious revolution that was always looming in the mountains, until of course the Army killed their most persuasive leader, I forget when that exactly happened (but it did happen).

What really matters is: what can the guy in power really achieve?

WHO cares what party does he come from?

The problem then is that because of the party you then create a form of paralysis (such as the last few years) that renders politicians irrelevant, or worse, a hindrance to the system.

In the end, it is up to business and in this country, (USA) this usably means the small businessman.
