But apparently you feel little obligation to protect and support the only democracy that exists in the region...

I don't think that US defends Israel, no matter what, because of being the only democracy. For if it were so then its policy of defending India, the only democracy vis-a-vis Pakistan would also hold. Besides, US support for Israel has looked past the killings that Israel. You don't expect Israel to compare its record of human rights to those of Hamas and Hizbullah, do you? And you are not quite noticing what I said. I talked about US defence of Israel "no matter what"; I repeat "no matter what". Like Israel can never be wrong on any issue. That is my point. Stead fast support is what I am saying.

And did you notice the brain fart from Bush again today. He said that he inherited th "regime change in Iraq" from Clinton. Well I can see the Democrats pouncing on this comment of his. What about the economy that he inherited from Clinton, what about the budget surplus that he inherited from Clinton, what about the job growth that he inherited from Clinton.

Funny that he looking up towards "the heaven" now. The moon, mars and what not. And notice how of all folks in the Bush cabinet, only Rumsfeld is coming out to defend Bush. Not Powell, not Rice, or any other Cabinet Secretary. Why is Rumsfeld that aggressive. He has always been that aggressive and Bush will soon realize that he is going to be a big liability for his re election if he keeps him on.

Re: Well, I'm not ashamed to support a democracy, even with all of its warts..

Likewise, we're not ashamed to support the Palestinian people, even with all their foibles....

Re: But I would be ashamed to support a totalitarian state that had killed upwards of 300,000 of it's own people, invaded other nations and brutalized them, and used chemical weapons against innocent civilians..

How dare you sermonize?!? The US dropped TWO nuclear bombs on Japan --on Japanese cities (Hiroshima & Nagasaki), not mere military targets... Do you know what a "city" is, Hawk? Look around you: a city is sort of a big conurbation filled with houses, appartment buildings, churches, schools, hospitals,.... and your Nazi-fighter Truman didn't hesitate to wipe it out! 300,000 innocent Japanese flashed out of existence.... And what did you perpetrate in Vietnam? You massacred 2,500,000 Vietnamese --not just with bullets, but with chemicals and bioweapons as well. Up to this day, Vietnamese children are born with horrible defects because their premises are still poisoned with defoliant miasmas....

Gus

How do you debate a guy that rationalizes and equates the USAs support of Israel as a parallel to Frances support of Iraq specifically Saddam Hussein and cannot see the difference.........
