A quagmire is not a body count. It is a situation where leaving will mean immediate loss, but staying is not a formula for winning either.

If you read my posts from a year ago I was of the opinion that Iraq was a second rate power, slipping into third rate and that nothing could stop the U.S. from killing as many Iraqis as they could stomach. I think I sized up the situation pretty well. It is still a quagmire, because for all the destruction we are no closer to "winning" and should we depart the country will fall to chaos and civil strife.
