not enough respect for the dead going on. I've been to several funerals where people have arrived in old jeans and T-shirts with ballcaps on. If I don't have at least a pair of khakis, a shirt, and a tie - I don't go.

Respect for the dead person has got nothing to do with the clothes one wears at the funeral - its respect for normally accepted custom.. In the western world, I go to a funeral in a dark suit, white shirt and dark tie. In a place like India, depending on the person who died, I have worn a pyjama kinda outfit, as well as a traditionial muslim outfit with a skull cap.
