Though they did persecute and revile him unto his death? As the son of man , Jesus accomplishes so much upon the cross , and it seems only a minor thing and extremely disparaging to miscontrue for so many centuries the meaning of the "resurrection" into this literal sense , because you need to base your faith on such miracles, but miss the entire point of not just the one sacrifice...but the many that Jesus had to overcome , denying himself so many of the pleasures and the life other men indulged , so that he could accomplish the task his Father set before him. THE LAST TEMPTATION :This was the Last Temptation which came in the space of a lightning flash to trouble the Savior's last moments. But all at once Christ shook his head violently, opened his eyes, and saw. No, he was not a traitor, glory be to God! He was not a deserter. He had accomplished the mission which the Lord had entrusted in him. He had not married, had not lived a happy life. He had reached the summit of sacrifice: he was nailed upon the Cross. Content, he closed his eyes. And then there was a great triumphant cry: It is accomplished! In other words: I have accomplished my duty, I am being crucified. I did not fall into temptation...to offer a supreme model to the man who struggles; I wanted to show him that he must not fear pain, temptation or death - because all three can be conquered, all three have already been conquered. Christ suffered pain, and since then pain has been sanctified. Temptation fought until the very last moment to lead him astray, and Temptation was defeated. Christ died on the Cross, and at that instant death was vanquished forever. This dependency on miracles of the flesh resurrected , which detract from what Jesus himself really accomplished here on earth ...why does that seem so weak to me ? It matters not. In the crucifixion , Christ is glorified ...the later miracle of the resurrection is completely superfluous...if taken literally , denies the true glory of the purer spirit of the Life of the Christ to his glorious end ...which is to sacrifice himself , so that good men's spirits everywhere may finally awaken hearing of the deeds , the parables , the teachings which reflect through all time , like facets of gems shining down from the Holy Spirit . The sacrifice on the cross was not enough for you ? Or how he lived or what he taught ? Nothing seems enough it seems for some who "over-believe." ...Miracle worship is a very poor substitute for honoring the true glory of the man Jesus' real sacrifices and accomplishments in that time that he lived. His truth lives forever , without the miracle of resurrection....that is plain to see . Why do you call yourselves "Christians" and carry on so wearisomely ? And for centuries and centuries? amazing ...simply amazing . In Jesus' name , amen.
