These are small enclaves- the majority of people in the US are very ignorant about science. If you read the data on our students, they are falling behind all the other Western countries- why? In great part because of our attitude toward learning and science. Most cultures that beat the heck out of us academically see education as a prime good, and yet in the US we have this weird anti-intellectual strain that actually rejects what is elite, as suspect. Go figure. I see education as one of the greatest goods, and all learning, and science, as good. The ends of science can be bad, but science itself? No. The Buddhists have a view that all learning can be assimilated into their religion- that religion cannot reject that which comports with what is found out- unfortunately Xtians aren't like that, and froze themselves at the time their bibles were written- so they can't move forward with learning- an inherent problem of country that people think is "Xtian" (even though we really aren't). Since religion is declining in Europe, you are lucky- you don't have an anti-rational faction emanating from a large religious section of your populace- and I envy you that.

Beliefs elsewhere in the world:
Belief in creation science seems to be largely a U.S. phenomenon. A British survey of 103 Roman Catholic priests, Anglican bishops and Protestant ministers/pastors showed that:

97% do not believe the world was created in six days.
80% do not believe in the existence of Adam and Eve. 4
