I just remember how much trouble Jefferson caused John Adams when he was Vice President but leader of the opposite party. They gave each other Hail Columbia, didn't put the best interests of the country first. But, as you say, Jefferson couldn't be fired.

..The Euros and ME types will accept "nuanced" proposals from [Clinton] they would reject out of hand from Bush.

Like a divorced woman I read of, who found every suggestion or request from her ex abhorrent. She tried pretending it was Mel Gibson saying it. Guess what, it didn't sound so bad coming from Mel.

LB, if you were George W. Bush, would you trust Bill Clinton with that kind of power?

For gosh sakes, think how it would look to other countries. They wouldn't even be sure who was running the government anymore.

Hillary is not that far out of line with Bush on FA,

Only because of two things: She a Senator from NY, where 9/11 happened. She therefore has to be perceived as tough on terror and in line with W's foreign policy if she wants any chance of being re-elected. Second, she has to dispose of the political baggage she carries thanks to her husband's abominable FA record.

Is her present stance on foreign policy genuine, one she is likely to continue should it become less popular? Don't bet on it.
