I am 41 years old and live in Michigan in the thumb area. I own a hardwood floor company. I have not had any work in three months. In spite of the stock market, I do not see economy getting any better like you claim it is. At least for the middle and lower class anyway. This is the worst that it’s been in ten years in my line of work! I live real close to Pioneer Sugar. Sugar is the main industry in the thumb area. I hear now that thanks to the free trade agreement the already struggling Sugar Company may have to close it’s doors due to new competition with companies out of the country. This will leave thousands of people in the thumb area unemployed, which down the line will hurt my business even more. I have read about other companies all over the country that are in the same boat. A good friend of mine is a toolmaker/ patternmaker. He has been laid off for 8 months because like a lot of companies his company is sending the work out of the country. He is my age. It took him years to learn his trade and he has been doing it since high school. Kind of old to be starting over again don’t you think? Now you want to ship Mexicans over here to work? Millions of US citizens need those jobs! It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what is going on here! We are doomed! In my opinion and many others, you are damming the future of our country. Clinton did not help matters at all either. We need to do away with the free trade agreement before it’s too late! And as far as Iraq goes, boy you sure opened up a can of worms there. Looks like we’ll be paying for that for many years! But what do you care. Even if you don’t get voted in for another term, you will be set for the rest of your life. And I’m sure your family will be as well. I feel real bad for the future of our youth. You should be thinking more about them rather then the people in other countries! Let them fend for themselves! Further more, your employment-training program is not going to help the elderly people that are laid off get new jobs! Who is going to want to hire them? All this and more is disrupting the lives of millions of Americans. I say, in America, Americans should come first! You use to have my support. But I am afraid that is no longer the case.
