For me it's difficult to accept somebody can film in the remnants of the Auschwitz bathrooms "proving scientifically cyclon B was never used here". Especially so, if the material is then used to fish for recruits.

Have you seen the movie about that? Dr. Death. After showing the so-called experiment, the film makers then interviewed real scientists and real experts, who made the so-called researcher look like a complete idiot. So it's quite an instructive issue - one learns quite a bit about idiocy, gullibility, and willful blindness.

Oh, but you're afraid that some people will believe it. Well, I don't know what people believe in Germany, but in France, the book that claimed that the US faked 9/11 was a best-seller. One could make exactly the same argument, that this book should be banned because it tells lies.

But - I would disagree. Let the lies be told. Let all the lies be told, and the truth be told, and let them fight it out.

Funny, my husband and I were just talking about David Duke, the KKK guy who is now in prison. According to Drudge Report, he's going to run for public office as soon as he gets out. I've been seeing David Duke around for more than 30 years, we were at college at about the same time. He says that black people and white people cannot live together in peace. I suppose some people would like to shut him up, and other people think he's their savior. I think he's an idiot. Let him run for public office, he can't be any worse than some of the other idiots we've had.

And then there's Eugene V. Debs, who went to prison for criticizing US involvement in WWI. Some of the most respectable jurists on the Supreme Court bench thought that was treason, so they shut him up. That was a bad decision, but they were motivated by all the best reasons. How dare a man criticize the government in time of war? Intolerable!

I think what happens is that the government decides that it doesn't like being criticized, so it starts jailing people who don't like the government. Where do you draw the line in deciding who to shut up? May as well put in a police state, with concentration camps and tattle-tales snooping by your door, hoping to hear something to put you away.

At some point in the early 20th century, better jurists on the United States Supreme Court decided that the time to shut people up was when there was a "clear and present danger" that their speech would lead to criminal acts. I don't think we're worse off for that, I think we're better off. So, let the liars lie.
