<I love Republicans, the good down to earth business minded, conservative spending type - just not that idiot Bush's ruinous, lie on the big issues variety.>

I hear you.

If the DEMS won both houses and the presidency no doubt we'd have just as high of deficits but the money would be spent with the middle class and welfare programs.

Can you give me an example of when in recent history the dems have behaved in this manner (tax and spend)? Because I am starting to think it is an urban myth. On the contrary for my entire adult life republicans = deficits. And they spend money on their constituency, the wealthy. Which doesn't do much good on the way to banana republic-land.

Anyway the good news is there isn't much more damage Bush can do in these last few months of this term, at least. I don't think he can start another war- he may want to with Syria but no troops and no money, his hands are tied.

On the economic front the deficit is so bad that **even more spending** is somewhat out of the question. We will probably lose another few hundred K jobs at most between now and November, or maybe we might even create 100K jobs or so. The major damage has been done on the economic front also imho and now the US economy is operating at 1/3 the job creation level of France, even though US republican politicians make jokes about the French economy. It will probably stay this way for the next year.

Corporate profits are rising and the stock market is rising and that means the small number of Bush recipients are satisfied. Whether this is enough for re-election remains to be seen.
