It's realistically impossible, Rose, for me or anyone whom we know on SI, IMO, to "get out there" and fight anything that goes on in the U.S. government -- especially now, with the jerks who are running it. I think that silencing of "dissenters" is a top priority and perhaps soon, we won't even be able to communicate our disgust with others of like mind around the world.

As you aptly note, anyone "honest" has a slim chance of succeeding in US politics.

On another note, I received this email message just a few minutes ago from a progressive friend of mine who knows nothing about SI or any of its threads.

"Friends,
Came across this quote by Voltaire; because it is so apropos, thought it would be appropriate to share it with you:

Anyone who has the power to make you believe absurdities, has the power to make you commit injustices - Voltaire

Perhaps this offers insight re Bush with all his nonsense--and what happened to Dean in/since the Iowa vote, etc., etc."
