Depends on what you mean by "united"... Are you THAT united in America? Is the US a monolithic polity with no minorities, no sociological faults? Isn't the US a fragmented fabric made up of several, conflicting constituencies? If so, who is empowered to settle America's internal disputes as in, say, Gore vs Bush? I mean, is the US Supreme Court a melting pot?

Oh sure, you've got a unifying pep talk, you've got a strong patriotic creed that's hammered upon you from kindergarten all the way up to the church and the military --the flag, the Bible, and the apple pie.... You've even coined a term to smear those party poopers who won't toe the line: unAmerican! Over here, there is no unFrench or unEuropean slur....

As you can see, people can be "squeezed" into Unity. All you need is the right media-military apparatus coupled with a (re-)education of the masses....
