Onion movie filming in Hollywood

(Madison-AP) -- If you thought the newspaper was funny, get ready for the movie.
Shooting has started on 'The Onion Movie,' a screen version of the satirical hit newspaper born in Madison.

Onion editor-in-chief Carol Kolb says the newspaper staff is confident that first-time directors Tom Kuntz and Mike Maguire will bring the unique Onion flavor to film.

Kolb says they seem to understand what The Onion is all about. A few print staffers even have bit parts in the Hollywood production.

The newspaper had its humble beginnings in Madison in 1988, and is now available on newsstands in Milwaukee, Chicago, Denver and New York City.

Onion headquarters moved to the Big Apple three years ago.

Longtime Onion writer-editors Robert Siegel and Todd Hanson wrote the movie screenplay
