Yes. I thought the same thing. Apart from ridiculous risk of suffocation, is the sheer stupidity of the whole thing. It smacks of the whole "duck and cover" drills (as CH mentioned), that took place during the Cold War years. People were even sending away for bomb shelter plans at the time (I think you could order them from Popular Mechanics or something like that). I find it absolutely amazing how seemingly intelligent people can become whipped into hysteria by this kind of crap. Anyone who believes that the human race has evolved to the level of operating on the basis of common sense is really forced to reconsider.

I like your Darwinian theory. Funny. I was just discussing this topic with a friend earlier today. The more messed up the world becomes, I suspect that we'll see a declining number of bright people having children. Meanwhile, the truly cretinous ones will, in all likelihood, continue to replicate.
