A baby is pretty much incapable of judging,

A baby can judge many things. Whether it is hunger, whether it is hurt, whether it is scared. With respect to us, it can judge whether this is a mother come to feed it, a stranger leering at it, a doctor with needle in hand come to hurt it. Babies are pretty sophisticated judges about adults.

It may well be that their judgments about adults are more sophisiticated than our judgments about God.
