Yes. I don't doubt that. However, the continued paranoia and seeming extension into all sorts of other things -- especially this disease thing -- much more fear of SARS was being blasted around by the media in the US than was evident in Canada (although, granted, probably mainly for political reasons) -- and then fear of the "killer flu" this past autumn when people were freaking out of vaccine shortages. Now, I fully expect the avian flu thing to be everywhere in the news. It's almost like we're seeing a mass manifestation of PTSD.

I wonder if there was a similar sort of reaction in India after Bhopal when the Union Carbide plant malfunction killed a lot of people very suddenly ( 3,800 persons died, 40 persons experienced permanent total disability, and 2,680 persons experienced permanent partial disability).
