"Few Christian authors, even those expressing anti- semitic opinions, were exterminationist."
True enough, but there were some. As far as the establishment, Establishment members such as the former king of England(husband of Wally) and Lindberg were strong supporters of Hitler and the methods he used to rebuild the country. The period was fraught with anti-Semitism. Which is one of the reasons so many were blind to Hitler's real goals.
" It would have been better if they had taken Hitler seriously from the beginning and gotten prepared. It took Hitler time to prepare for war, too." Hindsight is always 20/20 vision. The fact is that it didn't happen and the fact is also that Saddam probably didn't have WMD's in 2002.

As to your ancestors, I lost the Jewish side and the Catholic side of my family in Hungary during WWII so my interest in this kind of problem is very intense.
