Yes pretty much the fishing ends in an area called the "rock garden" upstream from great falls, it is only a foot or so deep there, after that you are in what they call the "potomac gorge" and there is a lot of whitewater.

Probably holds a lot of fish, but fishing from a whitewater kayak isn't too practical. It's a fun place to kayak but you have to get out before great falls or you die. I new a couple of people who kayaked great falls, the margin for error is razor thin.

I used to fish downriver around quantico and that area too, but the river is really big down there and you need a motorboat to get anywhere.
