Just imagine raising taxes to cover the one-half trillion budget deficit for this year. At 285 million citizens the Federal budget deficit for this year is $1,754 per person or $7,018 for a family of four.

That's 16.5% of the median household income of $42,400. Just imagine Bush asking for an additional 16.5% income tax to cover the shortfall caused by all of his magic spending.

yes but what effect is the job drainage having on salaries in SV?

you wrote: all the big companies have cut engineering staff in the US by around 30-40% in silicon valley and hired up in india.

if this many are fired, then this would seem to increase the supply of silicon valley workers for these jobs by more than 50%. what will this do to salaries in the long run. maybe cut them 50%.
