I am quite happy to see projects like Smithfield Foods biodiesel project , but it is incomplete, I see nothing about producing electricity on a utility scale, and there are no cost projections on the produced fuels. You state that there will be many more projects of various megasizes to follow, which in effect agrees with what I said "I am totally in favor of anaerobic digestion, but energy production costs are hard to determine because there are no consistent large scale projects." Show me the large finished projects and fuel production costs.

I have been aware of landfill gas power production for years, and am also in favor of that.

You are obviously against windpower, but show me no logical reason why. Again, this need not be eiither/or. We need all of the energy production we can get. Wind power is produced for .05 a kWh, and is as clean as you can get, except for solar. Farmers want them for the royalties because the windmills take up a small percentage of their land. Power companies like them because they use no fuel and are now very low maintenence. Only the uninformed like you are against them. I know of no plans to place them in neighborhoods. What a silly thing to say. They work best in open plains and offshore.

Ill guarantee you that the propeller pushers will not be out of business. Costs continue to drop, and the wind will be there as long as the sun shines.

< As with most Demoncrats, ignorance and Hillary drivel is bliss. >

The coming years will prove who is the ignorant one here. I'm not the least bit worried. You should be.

Isn't it great that we have forward looking people who are really doing something to become energy independent in this country, in contrast to coal loving Cheney's 50's mentality?

"In a win for energy independence and good jobs, California, New York, and Pennsylvania have all announced initiatives this week to invest in energy alternatives. The Apollo Alliance is working to bring key constituencies together in these states to build a better energy future.

The Apollo Alliance joined California State Treasurer Phil Angelides as he announced a 1.5 billion dollar investment in state pension funds to go towards clean and alternative energy technology. Angelides's announcement comes two weeks after he participated in the Apollo Alliance’s release of “New Energy for America,” a jobs study detailing the economic benefits of Apollo. At Apollo’s press conference Angelides stated “I am well aware that the way in which we invest capital can shape not only the contours of our economy, but also the future of our communities, our society, and our environment for decades to come.” The Apollo Alliance is working with labor leaders in California. California Labor Federation Exec. Secy. Treas. Art Pulaski, also attending the press conference, stated “The California Apollo Project is about our future,” said Pulaski. “We need strong public investment in real job creation, not corporate tax breaks that create long term deficits.”

On the East Coast, New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton called for public investment in renewable energy on the scale of the Apollo space program, noting that “significant federal investments in the space program” and other initiatives have brought significant benefits to the United States. She noted that Japan and Europe “have made big commitments to advancing these technologies with significant public investment...we must do the same.”

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania Governor Rendell announced several progressive energy initiatives for Pennsylvania. He proposed a new “green tax holiday” for purchases of energy efficient appliances. In addition, the Governor’s budget extended the Pennsylvania Energy Harvest an investment initiative that provides financial tools to encourage clean and renewable energy projects. Over the last several years, Pennsylvania has doubled the amount of green energy that they use. This week, Governor Rendell directed state agencies to make 20 percent of the state’s energy needs met by new energy technology.

Senator John Kerry:

"The New Energy for America Plan released today by the Apollo Alliance is exactly the kind of thinking America needs to achieve true energy independence. We can only succeed if we come together, like the Apollo Alliance has, to balance our priorities for the environment, energy independence and job creation.

"America's energy security depends on domestic, renewable energy sources. The Apollo Alliance is setting a course to that independence. In contrast, the Bush administration is continuing to take America down a path of dependence on foreign oil and failing to invest in new energy technologies. As president, I will reverse the Bush assault on our environment and end the control the energy lobby has over our government.

"Renewable energy sources are important because they are entirely under our control. No foreign government can embargo them. No terrorist can seize control of them. No cartel can play games with them. No American soldier will have to risk his or her life to protect them.

"I am proud to have worked with the partners in the Apollo Alliance throughout my career to ensure protect our environment and to promote energy independence. I applaud their efforts today and I look forward to continuing our work together."

Now here is a man than can show true leadership.
