well, you have an advantage here, khruschev was before my time, but I do know a lot of people from that era. JFK was respected in Soviet Union so I doubt that Khruschev lost his power because of the agreement with JFK. I also pointed out that the incident almost caused a nuclear war, as was discovered from recently released old classified documents, when Russians lost their command over nuclear subs that was heading toward US. Also Khruschev was slightly insane which was a bad image for former USSR. I doubt that we would ever know for sure what happened there
