The only reason I can see for American agriculture not to be "foreign outsourced" along with everything else is transportation costs and "freshness" considerations. Before I left CA, the Avocado growers there were asking for protectionist measures against the much cheaper Mexican avocados coming in under NAFTA. For some reason, Americans seem to accept protectionist measures on agriculture much more easily than anything else. Maybe because we eat the stuff, and trust ours more than theirs.

I was thinking about the day when the rest of the world achieve the same standard of living as the US. By that time, the only thing we can export is agricultural products because the US (along with Australia, Brazil etc) has a more farm land than many other countries.
