Legal rights already exist for each homosexual American on the basis of his individual humanity. Under current law, insurance and inheritance instructions can already be fashioned however homosexuals with to fashion them. Beyond this, the state has no natural requirement to clarify legal rights for homosexuals.

Now the state flirts with the idea of granting homosexuals legal rights on the basis of their sexual relationships, as if those relationships fundamentally mark human identity. If it persists here, it will soon discover that it must also accept polygamy, both hetero and homo. It will be required to accept other "family" arrangements, since the true basis of family law will have been destroyed by homosexuality. Either family law will become too broad such that it is meaningless, or government will "get out of marriage" altogether. Essentially, the very thing that makes societies cohesive, that makes them exist, will become marginalized ultimately unrecognized by society.

The family has taken a lot of hits since leftists have had their way at it. But it is still the ideal to which most of us aspire. In the future, it will become so fluid as to lose meaning.
