It's all about whose Ox is being gored. Andrew Sullivan hasn't been exactly objective in his thinking on the matter. Comparing it to Brown v Board of Education is pretty hysterical, IMO.

Gay marriage is one of Sullivan's idees fixe'. At least he emailed you back.

A while back I emailed him that I have no problem with gay marriage but wondered what he thought about gay men or women having to pay spousal support in the event of a divorce, and equitable division of their property, including retirement plans and so forth. No response. ;^)

Sullivan is irrational on this issue. Gay people have always had the right to marry - just not their gay lovers, they had to pick a person of opposite sex, just like everybody else.

I still do not understand how you craft the law so that it allows gay marriage but forbids polygamy.
