I have never seen a cast of characters that was black and white. That's simply not what humans are. But do I think the Palestinians are more black in this case? Yes, I do. They have been offered peace, and their own land, on many occasions. President Clinton got Israel to make almost astonishing concessions. Astonishing? It was their land to begin with.......the Zionists finagled their way in. Arafat said no. What he was offered may not have been perfect, but it was more than reasonable. He said no. Arafat asked for what the Jews from Germany demanded from Switzerland.......reparations. The Israelis took over the property and assets of the Arabs who fled the 1948 war and never made any reparations for that property. Is that fair? Is it fair that every time their are peace negotiations the Israelis reduce the amount of Palestinian land they allow the Palestinians to have? No American would stand for the kind of treatment the Israelis bestow on the Palestinians. But its okay for the Palestinians to take that crap. The fact which you seem to find easy to overlook is that Hamas and other groups have made crystal clear that they do not want peace with Israel. They want Israel gone, period. End of discussion. Nothing less. They will continue to commit terrorist acts until Israel is totally gone. So what? The religious right in this country wants gays banished from this country. Do you believe and grant the demands of extremists? Frankly, I think that argument is an excuse for Israelis not to bother to negotiate and for Americans to ignore what's really going on in Palestine.Israel has accepted the principle of two nations, that the Palestinians should have their own nation, but that it must respect Israel's right to exist. Has it? You need to read the history of the conflict, starting from the late 19th century thru the 20th century. Whatever the problems of details may be, they have accepted that principle -- the right of the Palenistian people to exist and to have their own state. Then why has Israel been building settlements in the West Bank and Gaza since the 1980s? There are over 300k Israelis living in the WB. Israel is building a huge wall most of which is on WB land. There is a huge water aquifer under the WB that Israel controls and siphons water out to the Palestinians while she takes more than her share. Water is gold in the ME and Israel is robbing the Palestinians of their gold. Does this sound like a nation that has accepted the notion of two separate states? I don't think so! The Palenstinians have NOT accepted the same for Israel. They want to destroy Israel totally, and to have it all for themselves. I find that, personally, an unacceptable position in the context of international relations. Those are the words but it looks to me like its just the opposite. Israel is trying to destroy the notion of an independent Palestinian state. If you had a neighbor who was shooting at your wife and children (if you have any) and was not going to stop shooting until they were all dead, and you lived in a neighborhood where there were no police (there are no international police, you know), would you just sit back and twiddle your thumbs until they were all dead? If you say yes, I frankly don't believe you. One can only make this analogy if one does not know the facts. Yes, Israel has done some things they should not have done. I have never painted them as all white. But when you are fighting an enemy whose sole goal is your total destruction, This is an old story. Israel is a minor superpower thanks to us. No one can possibly kick her out of ME. The Arab nations fear her. Your story is very dated.
