I don’t see any other candidates for military action in the region, even looking well over the horizon.

I don't either, but this move is to start our "Divorce" from South Korea. Any quick move on our part out of the country would be destabilizing. I think I mentioned in a post to you that South Korea got very very upset with that Richard Halloran article I posted to you. The speculation really hit a nerve. I have some "inside" on that reaction. They don't want us to leave. Our Military wants the base there. Why I don't know. It is a hardship post. But that is all going to change. Take a look at the three articles I just posted from the "National Journal," starting at Message 19774893

I can’t envision any scenario in SE Asia – or for that matter anywhere between Taiwan and Bangladesh –in which a significant American deployment would serve any productive purpose.

Steven,
You may want to read these very recent articles. Though Thailand is not mentioned here, it too is a hotbed of terrorist activity and of course you know about the Philippines.
The terror threat within the geographic limits you define is definitely significant and growing daily.
