The United States did go the UN route, and spent weeks trying to build a strong coalition. It didn't work. Maybe you don't remember seeing Secretary of State Powell on TV presenting evidence to the UN. Now documents have been recovered explaining why the French would not participate. So attacking with a small coalition WAS the last resort....meaning Kerry's yes vote was valid according to you. (or is this one of those "it depends on what the meaning of yes is" explanations)
