I think we have a very serious problem with free trade sucking the life out of the middle class in the US and I'm not sure Kerry is the man to deal with the issue either. I agree with Ann on that topic. Notice Kerry mostly talks about defense. Defense is an easier subject this time around than trade. Defense is a US problem, something that can be solved by the US on our own. With trade you've got an impossible task. First the tax structure overtaxing US labor making it uncompetitive. That borders on senior entitlements. Next corporate profitability and CEO pay, all of this is related to offshoring. Finally a way to track how much of some product is actually made in the US, another impossible task. Right now companies like Applied and GE just use subcontractors to hide the offshoring so it doesn't even show up on the balance sheet. A mess, and hard to solve. Howard was the best to deal with this.
