I'm surprised the media hasn't--at least any I've seen--yet picked up on Russet's question: "Was the war on Iraq a war of choice or a war of necessity?" To which, Bush responded, "Can you elaborate on that?"

I've seen several media descriptions noting he said it's a war of necessity. He eventually did say this. Consider, however, he had a 50-50 chance of getting the answer to that question right--with or without elaboration. But still I didn't see any media noting he had to weakly ask for elaboration on a question that should have seen delivered an immediate and unequivocal response.

Imagine a Gold Star mother thinking her son or daughter died in a war of choice, and not one of necessity. I imagine there were more than a few of them wondering why he felt a need for elaboration on such a question.
