What would have gone differently if not a single fellahin had been evicted by the Zionists? Is it really your argument that it would have made a difference?

Nadine, I am not particularly knowledgeable about the ongoing duel in the ME. I long ago despaired of resolution so I have focused my attentions elsewhere. I do not know the historical details that you and Steven do.

Having said that, it seems intuitively obvious to me that folks evicted from lands where their families have lived are going to be really pissed and carry a grudge to the point of vendetta. That's just human nature. That would happen in any circumstances. It would happen in the US if some big company got the local government to claim the land through eminent domain and sell it to the company for a new plant, for example. People are attached to their land and consider being uprooted against their will a gut-wrenching, fighting matter, an immoral act.

That is not to say that Israel wouldn't still have been hated if the eviction had not been part of the package. Nor is it to apply blame. But I think Steven's point is valid that the eviction, in and of itself, would be enough to trigger the long term hostility we see in the Palestinians. Simple cause and effect. Visceral reaction. I don't see how anyone could reasonably expect otherwise.
