The US steelworker wanted protectionism and Bush relented.

Bushes steel tariffs were a major policy mistake. He shot his free trade rhetoric in the foot in a failed attempt to pander a few votes. Stupid...

As far as Clinton is concerned, he rode a perfect storm on the economic boom of the 90's. If Bozo the Clown had occupied the White House, the results would have been the same. For a short while, back in those heady days, there appeared to be a genuine fiscally responsible GOP majority in Congress. They were an effective brake on any expansionist program proposals that Clinton or Hillary were wont to put forth.

It's a damn shame that the GOP, controlling both houses and the Presidency, has completely abandoned that Contract With America and has replaced it with profligate spending run amok. With both parties seemingly bent on spending the country into ruin, it's truly a shame that voters have no viable alternative..
