folks like people here that support these policies should come up with a plan for workable legislation and modifications and send it to congress, imho.

This practice of offshoring which has contributed to massive wage deflation and deficits will be reformed, I am certain of it. The problem is, what will the reform consist of. Nobody wins if we kill off free trade forever. Otoh any mention of Juniper Networks sending all R&D offshore while receiving a 50-100mm US government showplace grant to promote US high tech expertise is enough to make any congressperson vote for restraint on this matter, surely you can see this. The examples of the ripoff of the taxpayer are so large and gaping there is no chance this can be argued with theory anymore, really. Notice that Mankew's "offshoring is good for the USA" caused republican senators to call for his resignation, that is a very bold step.

There has to be a happy medium and if free trade proponents dig their heels in and refuse to budge on this, we're going to get the John Edwards "close the borders" treatment imho.
