stories like this don't gain traction unless people are well off and happy. Ever heard of Maslow's heirarchy of needs? Well that applies to politics also. People are concerned about the state of government and foreign affairs (getting out of iraq without a civil war) and their own economic position/jobs. These are the only messages anyone will hear. Smear/playing the "liberal" card, etc won't work. U.S. stocks losses deepened Friday afternoon as investors reacted a much worse-than-expected drop in consumer sentiment.
