Lizzie,
Perhaps the consumer sentiment and trade deficit numbers can help explain some of today's $.70 sell off, but yesterday Intel was down near the same amount, and they had just announced the new light-wave chips and the reversal of the need for a $100 Million legal reserve, the night before.

As for a possible threat from AMD, as I have stated here many times before, I think this is almost non-existant. The potential threat you refer to, has been around for as long as I can remember, and yet AMD has never been able to deliver. The same companies you refer to in your post, who are using AMD's "Opteron" Servers, are the same companies that have a vested interest in diminishing "Wintel's" influence. IBM and SUNW, who have lost much revenues trying to provide an alternative to Intel and Windows. As for HP, they have to support AMD products because of some of the CPQ customers were sold AMD products before HP acquired CPQ.
