Thank you for EndItAl 1 !! -- I shall uninstall 2, which i've been too itimidated by to use anyway, and install 1. It seems that you don't need to boot into safe mode to create a restore point, but to access it later, you have to. At least, this is what it says: Access restore points When you need to access a restore point, boot into safe mode by pressing F8 during the boot. Then select "Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)" and press Enter. If you want to pick your restore point by creation date, boot into safe mode and launch the System Restore wizard. Now you can restore your computer based on when restore points were created.
