Have you thought about a career as a travel writer? That post made me want to leap on the next flight North.
Well, after a stop at the mall for some serious winter clothes.
The canals especially sounded lovely. Any skating is done indoors around here. This is the Galleria (you have to scroll down and click on the pic)

I think it is terribly unreal and decadent. I much prefer my memories of the parking lot at the Natural Bridge Hotel in Virginia. Every winter the powers that be blocked a portion off and flooded it. A small stand sold hot chocolate, and if you got really cold, you could warm your hands over a big metal barrel with a fire in it-- the kind you see in movies of the ghetto. We got together in huge groups of teens to drive there- no drugs, no alcohol. I do remember the mountains looming right over us and an amazing number of stars in the sky.
There was just not much going on in the Shenandoah Valley in those days for entertainment. We had a movie theatre that changed its movie every week or two and high school sports. There were three tv channels. Somehow we survived.
